As United Methodist Women leaders, clergy and faith leaders, please join us in signing a letter to Congress calling for a bold economic recovery and infrastructure package that addresses the climate crisis, advances climate justice, protects public health and creates family and community sustaining jobs.
As we move from COVID relief to economic recovery, this moment offers an opportunity to invest in a just energy future while addressing the injustices of the past by:
- Expanding clean, renewable energy and modernizing our electric grid
- Electrifying transportation and expanding public transit
- Clean water infrastructure for all communities
- Investing in justice in Black Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and low-income communities
We are partnering with Interfaith Power and Light and other faith organizations to gather as many faith leaders as possible to sign on to show that people of faith are urging Congress to act. This includes lay and clergy leaders signatures. Would you sign on and invite other faith leaders within your United Methodist Women, church, ecumenical and interfaith contexts to sign on? When signing on, place make sure you add your leadership position (e.g. United Methodist Women [Unit] President).
The deadline to sign the letter is June 9. We will deliver the letter to members of Congress in mid-June as Congress is finalizing an infrastructure package.
Thank you for your faithful witness.
Grace & Peace,
Elizabeth Chun Hye Lee
